Reiki News Magazine Writer's Guidelines

Welcome to Reiki News Magazine! We are excited that you are interested in contributing to our publication. At Reiki News Magazine, we strive to provide unique perspectives and fresh voices, and we invite you to contribute as a writer.

If you are thinking about writing an article for our magazine, please take time to read our guidelines carefully. They make your writing project easier and more likely to be accepted for publication. The following information will assist you in what to submit, how to present it to us, and what not to do.

What We’re Looking For

Engaging Content: Our publication focuses solely on Reiki or its integration with other modalities, so we want articles that provide genuine value to readers, inspire them, and show them how to use Reiki more effectively. We look for articles that enhance the understanding of Reiki through stories of healing and transformation, new techniques, historical insights, or research projects. We aim to provide our readers with content that leaves an impression.

A general familiarity with what we have published in the past is the best guide to what we’re looking for. Please review past magazine issues to gain this understanding.

If you want to write an article for Reiki News Magazine, please contact William Rand and inform him of your article idea. We are looking for good, clearly articulated ideas. Provide an outline, sample paragraphs, or a description of your article. Share samples of your previously written articles or web links to them if you have any. Contact William by emailing magarticles@reiki.org.

Accuracy and Credibility: Our writers must provide credible information with reliable sources. Citing the original author is essential when using sources like books, journals, or websites for research. A citation acknowledges the use of material from another source and provides our readers with the information to locate it again. Not doing so is regarded as plagiarism.

Place properly formatted endnotes at the end of your article to reference words, quotes, definitions, information, and the ideas of others. We use The Chicago Manual of Style for endnote format. https://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/tools_citationguide/citation-guide-1.html.

Submission Guidelines

Word Count: We accept submissions between 1,500 and 2,500 words but will consider shorter articles.

Formatting: Please format your articles in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx), using Aptos or Calibri font, 12-point.

At the top of your article, put your contact information, including your name, complete mailing address, contact phone number, email address, and submission date. Next, place the title of your article, your name as the author, and word count.

At the end of your article, place a brief biography of 60-70 words stating your Reiki background and training, other practices, or interests. Include your business name and website address if you have one, and an email address for readers to contact you if different from your submission email. You may look at previous magazine issues for examples of writer biographies.

Include a headshot photo of yourself. Remember, we will print it in a hard-copy magazine, which requires an original resolution of at least 300 dpi. Please refer to the “Images” section below for specific requirements.

Submission: Send articles by email as an attached MS Word file, including your contact information—name, address, phone number—in the email body with any other information.

Images: Photographs and illustrations will make your article more interesting and informative to our readers, so please include them with the submission of your article. Include photographs, pictures, diagrams, graphics, and charts that would be helpful and interesting.

If you have photos, please remember that they will be printed in a hard-copy magazine, which requires a higher resolution than the internet. Therefore, send photos with an original resolution of at least 300 dpi. We cannot accept photos taken from the internet as the resolution is too low.

You must have the rights and permission to use any images you send.

Embedding photos in your MS Word document to illustrate placement is permissible, but also send any pictures or graphics as separate files. Contact corey@reiki.org with technical questions regarding image quality and formatting.

Helpful Tips

  1. Remember to call on Reiki to help you write your article. This step can include using Reiki to help you find a suitable topic, create an outline, research, fact-gather, and write.
  2. Use an uplifting style that inspires hope and shows how Reiki can solve problems and improve one’s life.
  3. Illustrate the effectiveness of your ideas or techniques with concrete examples in your article.
  4. Incorporate suitable quotes from authorities on your topic and include the source.
  5. Provide historical and background information. An example would be briefly describing yoga, its history, and some notable teachers when writing about Reiki and yoga.
  6. If you’re interested in writing about a unique Reiki technique, only choose ones that have been tested and, over time, have proven valuable. This way, you can provide examples of how this technique has been effective and beneficial to others.
  7. If you use someone else’s ideas, give them credit.

What Not to Do

  1. Submit only original work not previously published elsewhere, meaning not in another publication, on your website, or anywhere else on the internet, as we check every article for self-plagiarism.
  2. Do not submit “channeled” material. We do not publish articles solely because they have been channeled regardless of the source. You may use channeled material as long as the ideas and techniques included in the article have been tested by several people and proven to be valid.
  3. No self-promotion. Refrain from using any information about yourself, your books, previously published work, or classes in your article. Your article’s primary goal is to offer the reader helpful information, not to promote yourself. We recommend placing your contact information, including your email address and website URL, at the end of the article in your biography so readers can learn more about you directly from those sources.

Additional Points

  1. We do not provide payment for articles we publish. However, unless requested otherwise, we promote writers and their contact information through the biography at the end of each article. Contact information can include email addresses, phone numbers, and website addresses. We will send you five complimentary copies of the magazine and a PDF file of your article for client distribution. You have the option to share your article on your website. Writing for the Reiki News Magazine is a great way to promote your Reiki practice!
  2. We acknowledge the effort you’ve invested in your writing, which is distinctive and personal. However, it’s important to remember that even the most talented writers work with an editor to enhance their writing and ensure accuracy in grammar, punctuation, length, clarity, organization, flow, theme continuity, and fact-checking.
  3. We’ll usually work with you in the editing process and attempt to maintain your original meaning and intent. It is our experience that articles require editing. So, when you send us your work, you authorize us to edit it.
  4. The submission of articles, letters, and emails to Reiki News Magazine or Vision Publications, Inc. constitutes authorization for their use and publication, either wholly or partially, in any format by Vision Publications, Inc. and William L. Rand Company Inc. and its designees. Letters and emails become the property of Reiki News Magazine.

Honoring All Lineages and Schools

Our philosophy is to honor all lineages and schools of Reiki. This belief means that we acknowledge each person has the right to study and practice the style of Reiki they are guided to practice. The style chosen is the right style for each person to practice. It’s also within the rights of students to learn different Reiki styles and switch lineages, schools, or practice styles. We also acknowledge that anyone can start a new lineage or school of Reiki according to their guidance and decision. In this way, we honor all lineages and schools of Reiki.

However, in the publication of the Reiki News Magazine, we have the responsibility to publish information about Reiki that is accurate and dependable. Considering this, we have undertaken extensive evidence-based research on the history and practice of Reiki. When accepting magazine articles and in the editing process, we use this research to determine what articles and information are published. This process may result in the inability to publish all submitted work. We will work with authors to align their information with evidence-based research.
