. . . the absolutely incredible Japanese Reiki Techniques Workshop that Arjava Petter & Chetna Kobayashi have been conducting all over the world during 1999 is now available on video in VHS NTSC (USA and other countries) and PAL format. Check Our World-Wide Video Format List for your country's video format standard. If you are interested in SECAM format send us an email at center@reiki.org and if there is enough interest, we will consider making this additional format available.

We recently professionally video taped this three day workshop and edited it into four powerful hours which document the history and background of the recently discovered original techniques of Dr. Mikao Usui. This video workshop contains all the exercises and techniques from the JRT workshop including all those Dr. Usui taught to his students. They are clearly explained and you can replay them and practice them over and over until you have them completely mastered. We are convinced that you will love the simplicity and power of these techniques and that you will want to incorporate them into your daily life. Arjava and Chetna have done an incredible professional job in making the presentation of their material informative, enjoyable and timeless.

New Discoveries In The History of Reiki

Concerning the history of Reiki and how it should be taught, we have been told that Dr. Usui was a Christian and had been the president of Doshisha University in Kyoto, Japan. That he had traveled to the University of Chicago and received a degree in theology. Also, we were told that Reiki was an oral tradition, that you must always charge money for Reiki treatments, that you must charge $10,000 for the master level and that there is a Grandmaster of Reiki who is in charge of the Usui system. Recent verifiable research into the history of Reiki has revealed that all these ideas are false.

This video tape set contains important new discoveries concerning the history of Reiki and how Dr. Usui practiced along with instruction on how to do all the Reiki exercises in the Japanese Reiki Techniques workshop including those in the handbook Dr. Usui gave to all his students! This is new information valuable to all who practice Reiki. These exercises have not been taught in the West before.

Introducing The JRT Workshops

In September, 1999 the Center sponsored, Arjava Petter, author of The Original Reiki Handbook of Dr. Mikao Usui, Reiki Fire and The Legacy of Dr. Usui to present workshops in Japanese Reiki Techniques (JRT). Arjava was joined by his wife Chetna Kobayashi, who was also instrumental in the discovery of important information about the history of Reiki and the development of the JRT program. These seminars were so well received that we video taped them and produced this video workshop.

Now You Can View The Techniques At Home

Arjava and Chetna explain their research and the contents of the JRT Video workshop . . .

"In the past several years, more information on Dr. Usui, his life and work in Japan has come to light and new facts and information continue to bubble up every day. Many of us in the West had been told that Reiki was an "oral tradition" and that nothing was to be placed in writing. I do not understand how this idea could have started because it is now known that Dr. Usui had a handbook he gave to all his students, and in fact this handbook is available to all the members of the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai currently operating in Japan. It contained crystal clear instructions as to how and when to use Reiki.

In addition, every president of the Reiki organization started by Dr. Usui, the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai, also created handbooks they passed out to their students. Out of these handbooks, and additional information given to us by Mr. F. Ogawa, whose father, K. Ogawa was a close friend and associate of Dr. Usui and the leader of the Shizuoka branch of the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai in Shizuoka, we learned an array of wonderful Japanese Reiki techniques that have so far been unknown in the Western world.

It is interesting to note that Mrs. Takata learned many of these techniques from Dr. Hayashi but did not teach them in the West. We know this because she mentions them in her diary. It is a shame that she chose not to teach them as they are such an important part of the Usui system."

Highlights Of The Video

  • Arjava and Chetna’s video workshop is a two tape set that contains four hours of instruction including:
  • A talk on understanding Japanese culture and how this has effected the development of Reiki.
  • A talk on Japanese Reiki history and historical facts of Dr. Usui’s life and work.
  • Questions and answers.
  • All the exercises included in the workshop are presented in this video series including:
  • An exercise called Reiki Undo. This exercise was introduced by Mrs. Koyama, the sixth president of the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai. It helps us learn to listen to our own body’s needs and activates the body’s inherent self healing abilities.
  • A breathing method called Joshin Kokyuu Ho. This is a breathing technique to strengthen your energy, collect energy in your tanden (lower abdomen) and learn to let the energy flow out through your hands.
  • A meditation called gassho meditation which is practiced in the morning and /or evening.
  • A technique called Reiji. This is a powerful prayer and is to be used prior to starting a treatment.
  • A group hands on session called Shu Chu Reiki. This technique is practiced in a group or at a Reiki meeting. All group members send energy to one group member wishing and praying for their happiness and health.
  • A group energy exercise called Reiki Mawashi. Translated the word mawashi means current. We let the Reiki current flow through the whole group.
  • A method called kenyoku which strengthens your energy and helps disconnect your energy from others
  • A talk about the Reiki Symbols and their origins. So much has been speculated about the meaning and origin of the Reiki symbols. We will look at the Buddhist and Shintoist aspects.
  • Healing with the eyes. We waste a lot of energy with our eyes. This technique teaches us to use it instead.
  • Healing with the breath and the second degree Reiki symbols.
  • A method called Byosen, scanning. With this method you learn to find and treat negatively charged body parts.
  • Learn to say the five Reiki Ideals in Japanese.
  • Hesso Chiryo, a technique for relaxation.
  • Jacki-kiri Joka-ho, a method of transforming negative energy into positive.
  • Enkaku Chiryo, distant healing. There are as many distant healing techniques as there are Reiki practitioners. This technique is Dr. Usui’s version of it.

The information in this video has come from research done in Japan including the translation of Dr. Usui’s Reiki handbook that he gave to all his students and other original Japanese documents as well as interviews with members of the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai - the organization started by Dr. Usui that is still functioning in Tokyo, Japan. It dispells all the myths and misinformation about the history of the Usui system of Reiki and establishes the practice on a solid historical foundation. All the exercises are clearly explained and demonstrated so you can start doing them now!
