William and Colleen are co-teaching this very special Reiki class on Mt. Kurama, live, in person! Lodging and the class will be held at a wonderful Ryokan inn at the base of Mt. Kurama.

  • The class is five days long.
  • You will experience the spiritual energies of this sacred mountain and know in your heart why Usui Sensei was guided to this mountain to be given the gift of Reiki.
  • There will be class time on the mountain including Ignitions and Reiki practice.
  • We will stay at a traditional Japanese Ryokan Inn at the base of Mt. Kurama.
  • We will experience Japanese Kaiseki cuisine prepared by an expert chef.
  • The class will also include a Reiki Master who is fluent in Japanese and English to act as a translator to help us manage our activities.

This five-day training will include a day to arrive and check in to your room before class starts. The five class days will include time in the classroom and on the mountain including one or more Ignitions on the mountain if weather and conditions permit. The last day is for checkout. You are required to check in on Monday, October 28 at 10 am JST. Check-out is at noon on November 2nd JST. We also recommend that to adjust for jet lag, you arrive in Japan at least 3 days before the class starts and stay at a hotel in northern Kyoto. Please remember when making your plans, Japan is 14 hours ahead of Eastern Daylight Time.

A World Peace Crystal Grid has been accepted by the Buddhist Monks who live on the mountain; they have placed it in a sacred part of one of their temples on the mountain! They have a kind regard toward the healing work we do. The Kuramasou lodge where students will be staying and where the classroom is located is close to the train station in Kurama village and in fact it is right around the corner after you leave the station. There is also a small mountain stream that runs right next to the hotel. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be served there to all students; lunch may sometimes be a box lunch to take with you on the mountain. You will not need a car or transportation as the entrance to Mt. Kurama is only a block away from the lodge which is less than a block from the train terminal. Please note there are limited accommodations for students at the Kuramasou lodge. Because of this, some students may need to stay at a hotel in northern Kyoto and travel to class by train, bus or taxi. Please register early for this class.

Sugako San, the proprietor of the lodge says, “This is a Ryokan Inn, which is slightly different than a hotel and is unique to Japan. Dinner is a showcase of Japan Ryokan. The lodge dinner cuisine is called kaiseki-ryōri which is highly valued in Japan. The chef examines all seasonal ingredients to deliver the gems of flavor and fragrance within.” William says, “I have to tell you it is by far the best food I have ever eaten.” Dinner is a multi-course meal with each course served one at a time. Each course is prepared with great care; attention is given to the mixture of flavors and textures of the food, the nutritional value, and the artistic appearance. Kurama Village is a small traditional Japanese community. The lodging for the class is a traditional Ryokan Inn. It has traditional Japanese rooms with the traditional tatami mats on the floor to sleep on. The rooms are all shared rooms; there are no single or private rooms available for this trip. We found the rooms and the mats (which are like futons) to be very comfortable. In fact, they were more comfortable than the hotels we stayed in.

Reiki Requirements
You must have taken Reiki II 6 months or more prior to the date of the class. In addition, during this time you need to have practiced and developed a functional level of skill with each of the exercises. Skill with Byosen scanning, Reiji ho, use of the Reiki symbols and experience giving full Reiki sessions is necessary. Please fax to 248-948-9534 or send as an attached file to center@reiki.org.

Physical Requirements
One requirement is that you must be in good physical condition. There is a 1200-foot elevation gain between the lodge and the top of the mountain. While there is an optional cable car that will take you up part way, there will still be a climb of about 800 feet to get from the end of the cable car ride to the top of the mountain. Most of this is via stairs and there are places to stop to rest. If you are to get to the top in a reasonable time and feel good when you get there, you need to be involved in an aerobic exercise program that includes stairs to make sure your legs are in good shape. The hike from the end of the cable car ride to the top of the mountain is similar to climbing up the stairs of an 80-story building. Just so you understand, this is a very tall building. (As an example, the Empire State Building in NYC is 102 flights of stairs.) And this is done in about an hour. It would be unfortunate for you to travel all that way and then not be able to get to the mountain top location in time to take part in the Ignitions, class time and Reiki sharing activity, all of which are required for you to complete the class and receive a certificate.
